About Us

Novice Arbitration Mooting Competition (NAMCO) is an arbitration-based mooting competition that is open to all law students who have never participated in any national or international mooting competition and are thus invited to experience the workings of arbitration as an alternative dispute resolution themselves

Aimed as a platform to groom young talents for future legal challenges, NAMCO is set to expose students to real life legal disputes. These include legal problems where the participants shall utilize meticulous applications of the law and critical thinking within both the research and oral presentation parts of the competition.

NAMCO Management LLP and NAMCO Secretariat, are co-organizing this event with the Faculty of Law РUniversiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). For NAMCO 2017 edition we collaborated with Thomas Philip Advocates and Solicitors and it marked the highest number of participation of 17 teams from 9 local law schools and was successfully held at the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) as the official venue sponsor. After its sixth installment, NAMCO has been gaining recognition and support from Malaysian Bar Council, Malaysian Judiciary, legal practitioners, academicians and local law schools especially after the success of its 6th installment.

Upon reaching its 7th installment and in harmony with its aim to be a platform for novice mooters to gain first-hand experience to compete in a mooting competitio, NAMCO 2018 warmly welcomes the participation of all novice mooters from both national and international law schools.

History

This continued in 2013, where an additional Malaysian private university joined the others in the next iteration of the competition: Taylor’s University. In 2014, a total of five Malaysian public universities participated, including the original four as well as Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin.

The 2014 edition introduced a new additional platinum sponsor, Thomas Philip Advocates and Solicitors.

NAMCO 2017 as well as future iterations of the competition is solely owned and organized by NAMCO Management LLP and its NAMCO Secretariat, form part of this organization, and will thus be responsible for the management and all activities of present and future NAMCO related tasks.
